Daniel Martin Nice (1847-1931)

He was the son of Daniel and Eliza Ann (Martin) Nice. He enlisted in the Union Army when he was just 17 years old. He was attached to Company D of the 113st Regiment, Illinois Infantry during the Civil War.

Daniel Martin married Talitha Clark, the daughter of William P. and Sarah Ann (Lewis) Clark. They raised six children, Ida, Julia, Alonzo, Amenzo Earl, Perry Riley and William P.

He died Dececember 20, 1931 in Watseka, Illinois. His obituary says, "He was a member of the Advent Church and the G.A.R. Organization of Iroquois County. He took an active part in the G.A.R. work and found much enjoyment in the annual reunions of the Civil War Veterans. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. O.E. Wierings at the Watseka Christian Church. G.A.R. veterans and the American Legion attended in a body and had charge of the service at the G.A.R. Cemetery."
