Daniel Rowell Wilson

Daniel Rowell Wilson was born March 4, 1837 and died January 16, 1916. He served in Company I of the 47th Illinois Infantry Regiment from September 4, 1861 to October 11, 1864, mustering in at Lacon, Marshall County, Illinois and mustering out in Missouri. During that time, he saw action at Iuka, Corinth, Jackson and Vicksburg, Mississippi (among other locations). He received no medals, nor was he an officer, but according to the Adjutant General's report for the Regiment, he served under some of the most disagreeable conditions of the entire war.

After the war, he was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) (see GAR pin in photograph). The other circular pin in the photograph bears the likeness of his grandson, Russell Daniel Wilson (born 1907) at approximately age 3.

Photograph and information submitted by Daniel Rowell Wilson's great great great granddaughter, Clarissa Stuart.
