Cornelius E. Williams

Born on January 1, 1839 in Voss, Norway, Cornelius E. Williams was the son of Erik Vikingson Rjoe and Christi Bakketun. He enlisted and was mustered on March 3, 1862 as a Private into Company H, 15th Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. He listed his residence at his enlistment as Cambridge, Wisconsin. On June 10, 1862, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and on May 27, 1863 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. He was Mustered Out on February 13, 1865.

He married Britha Newton on November 12, 1868 in Chicago, and in 1898 they had three living children (Bella Christine Levy b 1869, Edward Newton Williams b 1871, and Mary Mattie Williams b 1881). Cornelius was also known as Knut. He died in 1916 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
