Charles H. McIntire

A residence of Norway, Maine, Charles H. McIntire was 18-years old when he enlisted on January 12, 1864 as a Private into Company F, 30th Regiment Maine Volunteer Infantry. He participated in the Red River Campaign April 8 and 9, 1864 battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill, Louisiana, respectfully. On April 23, 1864, he was captured at Cane River Crossing, Louisiana and taken to Camp Ford in Tyler, Texas where he became a prisoner of war. He was subsequently exchanged. On January 1, 1865, he transferred from Company F to Company K. He was mustered out of service on August 20, 1865 at Savannah, Georgia. Following the war, he became a member of both the Grand Army of the Republic Horace M Warren Post #12 in Wakefield, Massachusetts and Veteran Post #194 in Reading, Massachusetts. He died on August 26, 1920. Photograph and information provided by Charles H.
