Octave Bruso and Peter Bruso

He was born "Octave Brosseau" in the St. Luc Parish, LaPrairie, Quebec, Canada. He came to the US in the early 1850's. At the outbreak of the war, Octave Bruso enlisted in Company G of the 5th Missouri Infantry Regiment. By December 8, 1862, he was in Buffalo, New York, where he enlisted in Company E of the 50th New York Engineers. He was mustered out of service at Ft. Barry, Virginia as Acting Quartermaster Sergeant on June 13, 1865. Following the War he was a Buffalo, New York merchant, police constable, and held several political jobs. He died on December 24, 1897. His son, Dr. C. Frank Bruso, was a major in the Spanish American War, and head of the combined draft boards in Buffalo, New York during World War I. He was listed as being a member of Union Veteran Legion #97 in Buffalo.

Peter Bruso was born around 1832 in Laprairie, Quebec, as Peter Brosseau, and was possibly the son of Francois Brosseau and Salomee Duquette. Peter Bruso arrived in Buffalo, New York around 1853. On August 28, 1862, he enlisted as a private in Company M, 11th New York Cavalry, known as "Scott's 900." He was discharged for disability less than five months later at Camp Relief, Washington, DC, on January 17, 1863. After returning to industry in Buffalo for several years, he crossed the Niagara River into Fort Erie, Ontario, where he farmed. He died October 17, 1886 in Fort. Erie and is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York.
