Benjamin Franklin Rodgers

Benjamin Franklin Rodgers (B. Frank Rodgers) was born May 24, 1842 in the small northern Maryland town of Freeland. This town is in north Baltimore County, due north of Baltimore and about seven miles south of the Pennsylvania line. Benjamin Franklin Rodgers joined the Union Army on August 11, 1862, at Camp Schley in Baltimore, Maryland. for a period of three years. The unit mustered in was Company F, 4th Maryland Volunteer Regiment. On February 6, 1865, Corporal Rodgers was wounded in action at Hatchers Run Virginia. Corporal Rodgers was able to return to action in March of 1865. What his injuries were are not really known. From his pension papers, Corporal Rodgers was paid $75 at discharge and an additional $1.09 for cold weather clothing not drawn. Engagements his Regiment was involved included the Wilderness in May 1864, North Anna in May 1864, Spotsylvania in May 1864, Cold Harbor in June 1864, Welden Railroad in August 1864, Hatchers Run from October 1864 until February 1865, Reams Station in August 1864, Five Forks in March 1865, Globe Station in August 1864, and the Regiment was in the area of Appomattox in April 1865.
