Lorenz Difani

Lorenz Difani was born on August 9, 1835 in Zusenhofen, Baden, Germany. He emigrated to Missouri on April 17, 1851 with his mother and other siblings and settled around Perryville, Missouri. At the beginning of the Civil War, he was among the first to respond to President Lincoln's call for troops. Lorenz enlisted as a Private in Company A, 3rd Regiment Missouri Volunteers on June 8, 1861 in St. Louis, Missouri. He fought at the Battle of Wilson's Creek and was discharged on September 3, 1861. He re-enlisted with Company F, 17th Regiment Missouri Volunteer Infantry on October 16, 1861 in St. Louis, Missouri. He participated in the Battle of Pea Ridge, Arkansas. On May 19, 1861 he was killed at the Battle of Whitney's Lane at Searcey's Landing, White County, Arkansas. In May of 1886, Difani Grand Army of the Republic Post #273 was established in his honor in Perryville, Missouri.
