Peter James Lindemann was born December 5, 1957 in Syracuse, NY, the son of Richard and Janet (Hynick). His father died in 1966, and the family moved to the Colonie, NY where Peter grew up, and his mother still lives.
He graduated from Colonie High School in 1976, lettering in football, basketball, and track (shot put and discus). He went on the Cornell University, where he played football for two years. He graduated in 1980 with a B.A. in English.
Peter worked as a salesman for Western Union in Washington, DC for six months, then began working for the New York State Department of Civil Service in 1981. In 1984, he moved to the NYS Assembly, where he still works as Benefits Coordinator in the Human Resources Department.
In 1986 Peter married Eileen Reed Bender, and moved to Cobleskill (Schoharie County), NY, where they still reside. Eileen had three children from a previous marriage. Those children now have three children of their own, so Peter is a proud grandfather. Eileen and Peter have two boys, Chris and Matt.
In addition to the SUVCW, Peter is a Mason, and member of the Mayflower Society, and Sons of the American Revolution. He enjoys genealogy, and tries to walk every day for exercise.
His Civil War ancestors include great-great-grandfather Thomas E, Hall of the 49th Massachusetts Volunteers, and great-grandfather George Messer of the 25th NY Militia. Peterís great-uncle was Charles L. Messer, New York Department Commander in 1948, and Commander-in-Chief in 1962 (died in office).
Peter is a member of the Cpl James Tanner Camp No. 134 (Cobleskill), and Past Commander of the Col. George l. Willard Camp #154 (Cohoes). He was elected New York Department Commander on June 7, 2008 at the 125th Encampment in Waterloo, NY, and was installed by Commander-in-Chief Charle
