Chapter 442
AN ACT providing that United States route number six
shall be designated, known and marked as Grand Army of the Republic highway.
Became a law May 20, 1937, with the approval of the Governor. Passed, three-fifths being
present.
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assembly, do enact as
follows:
Section 1. In grateful recognition of the valued services rendered by the Union Veterans
of the Civil War in the defense of our country during the conflict between the states from
1861 to 1865 and to perpetuate the memory of this sacrifice for the preservation of the
union of states, the highway known as United States route number six crossing the eastern
New York state boundary line near Danbury, Connecticut and running thence to the
south-west boundary line between the state of New York and Pennsylvania near Port Jervis,
shall be designated and known as Grand Army of the Republic highway. The department of
public works is hereby authorized to provide and erect suitable markers on such highway to
indicate the name thereof in accordance with this act. Proper dedication ceremonies are
hereby authorized to be conducted by the Sons of Union Veterans and other patriotic
organizations at a time and place to be named by agreement between such organizations and
the department of public works.
§ 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
