National Secretary Don Palmer distributed both pre- and post-Encampment Council of Administration meeting minutes for review. Minor changes were recommended for each and both sets of minutes were amended. Motion by Council Member Brad Schall to approve both pre- and post-Encampment Council of Administration meeting minutes as amended. Second by National Quartermaster Danny Wheeler.

Motion by Council Member Perley Mellor to support the recommendation of the Executive Director Search Committee to hire Brother David Demmy from the Department of Pennsylvania as the new Executive Director. Second by Council Member Robert Petrovic.

November 13, 2008

Motion by Council Member Brad Schall, second by Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief Leo Kennedy, to present the Meritorious Service Award with Gold Star to Lee Walters for his outstanding efforts and dedication to the SUVCW.

December 7, 2008

Motion by National Treasurer Max Newman, second by Council Member Brad Schall, to allow the Department of Kentucky to strike a medal with the name "Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War" on the reverse side as a fund-raiser to help defray cost for the 2009 National Encampment.

December 16, 2008

Motion by Council Member Brad Schall, second by National Quartermaster Danny Wheeler, to accept the Program & Policy Committee recommendation to amend SUVCW Policy on the Use of Badges, Emblems, Seals and Symbols, paragraph 1 to read: No person, business, organization, government agency or other entity may use the name Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, except as provided in Section 200306 of the Articles of Incorporation as amended in 1998, without the express written consent of the National Organization, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Such consent is granted to all Camps and Departments of this Order in carrying out their obligations under the Charters granted by the National Organization.

December 29, 2008

National Secretary Don Palmer submitted the November 23, 2008 Council of Administration meeting minutes for review. A number of corrections were recommended by several members of the Council of Administration and an amended version of the minutes was subsequently submitted by the National Secretary. Motion by Council Member Brad Schall, second by Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief James Hanby, to accept the minutes from the November 23, 2008 Council of Administration meeting held in Gettysburg, PA as amended.

Note: There are 11 voting members of the Council of Administration, plus the Commander-in-Chief who may vote, but usually only votes in the event of a tie. The other voting members are the Senior Vice Commander-in-Chief, Junior Vice Commander-in-Chief, National Secretary, National Treasurer, National Quartermaster, Immediate Past Commander-in-Chief, and five elected Council Members.
