We welcome the brothers and sisters of the Allied Orders of the Grand Army of the Republic to Reston , Virginia . There were only two National Encampments held in Virginia, They were held in Richmond in 1965 and 1980.

Sheraton Reston Hotel offers its guests complimentary shuttle service to both the Washington Dulles International Airport (24 hours a day) and the Reston Town Center (7am to 11pm daily). Inquire with our lobby bell staff for more information.

 

 

  COMMEMORATIVE MEDAL

 

 The coming National Encampment of the Allied Order s of the G. A.R. will coincide with the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the First Battle of Bull Run and the 100th Anniversary of the 1911 Peace Jubilee held in Manassas, Virginia. The Department of the Chesapeake, SUVCW has ordered the striking of a numbered, limited edition, and commemorative medal to mark this historic occasion. The medal features the Henry Hill monument erected by Union soldiers in 1865 to commemorate the First Battle of Bull Run.

The 2011 National Encampment Commemorative Medal may be purchased for $25 each. They will be available for purchase at the 2011 National Encampment of the Allied Orders in Reston, Virginia, or by mail order (with an additional $3 for postage and handling per medal). Because there will be a limited number of medals struck, those wishing to pre-order the medals and have them reserved for them to pick up at the Encampment, may do so by sending $25 for each medal requested. Proceeds from the sale of the medal will be used to defray the cost of hosting the 2011 National Encampment of the Allied Orders of the GAR. Send check or money order payable to “MD Dept, SUVCW” to:

The pre-registration fee is $10.00 before August 2, 2011.    Use the Pre-Registration Form to register.  After August 2, 2011, the registration cost is $20.00. 

ENCAMPMENT PRE-REGISTRATION FORM MUST BE RECEIVED BY AUGUST 2, 2011.

 

 

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES

 

Thursday, August 11, 2011 –1st Bull Run / 1st Manassas Battlefield Tour

There will be two tours of the 1st Bull Run / 1st Manassas Battlefield on Thursday August 11, 2011 with Chief Historian Emeritus of the NPS, Edwin Bearss.

Tour cost is $40 per person. Seating is limited to 44 persons per tour. Make your reservations early as we expect these tours will fill up quickly. Reservations will be confirmed via email.

  • Tour A departs the Sheraton Reston Hotel at 8:00 AM and returns at 11:45 AM - This Tour is FULL !

  • Tour B departs the Sheraton Reston Hotel at 1:00 PM and returns at 4:45 PM - This Tour is FULL !

  TOUR RESERVATION FORM MUST BE RECEIVED BEFORE JULY 31, 2011.

 

Other Activities:

- Special 1/2 day-long tour of Washington, DC available. -

Includes visits to the Lincoln, Korean, Vietnam, Iwo Jima, WWII and FDR memorials with drive bys of The Pentagon, Kennedy Center, Ford’s Theater and many more.

Saturday, August 13, 2011 – 7:00 AM: Sons of Veterans Reserve Breakfast: 

Hosted by the Commanding General, the breakfast is open to all Brothers.  The Sons of Veterans Reserve (SVR) breakfast will take place in the Sheraton Hotel at the 130th National Encampment of the SUVCW in Reston Virginia .  The cost of the breakfast will be $12.00 per person, ADVANCE RESERVATIONS AND PAYMENT REQUIRED.  NO AT THE DOOR SALES WILL BE MADE.  For purposes of making final arrangements with the catering service at the Sheraton Hotel, it is critically important that reservations from those planning to attend be secured as soon as possible.  Please let Colonel Donald E. Darby, Adjutant General, Sons of Veterans Reserve, know of your planned attendance by using the SVR Breakfast Reservation Form.  Uniforms are encouraged, and wives, children and friends are welcome to attend.
