The coming National Encampment of the Allied Order s of the G. A.R. will coincide with the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the First Battle of Bull Run and the 100th Anniversary of the 1911 Peace Jubilee held in Manassas, Virginia. The Department of the Chesapeake, SUVCW has ordered the striking of a numbered, limited edition, and commemorative medal to mark this historic occasion. The medal features the Henry Hill monument erected by Union soldiers in 1865 to commemorate the First Battle of Bull Run.
The 2011 National Encampment Commemorative Medal may be purchased for $25 each. They will be available for purchase at the 2011 National Encampment of the Allied Orders in Reston, Virginia, or by mail order (with an additional $3 for postage and handling per medal). Because there will be a limited number of medals struck, those wishing to pre-order the medals and have them reserved for them to pick up at the Encampment, may do so by sending $25 for each medal requested. Proceeds from the sale of the medal will be used to defray the cost of hosting the 2011 National Encampment of the Allied Orders of the GAR. Send check or money order payable to “MD Dept, SUVCW” to:

SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Thursday, August 11, 2011 –1st Bull Run / 1st Manassas Battlefield Tour
There will be two tours of the 1st Bull Run / 1st Manassas Battlefield on Thursday August 11, 2011 with Chief Historian Emeritus of the NPS, Edwin Bearss.
Tour cost is $40 per person. Seating is limited to 44 persons per tour. Make your reservations early as we expect these tours will fill up quickly. Reservations will be confirmed via email.
Tour A departs the Sheraton Reston Hotel at 8:00 AM and returns at 11:45 AM - This Tour is FULL !
Tour B departs the Sheraton Reston Hotel at 1:00 PM and returns at 4:45 PM - This Tour is FULL !
